Ingredients for 4 portions
650 | g | Pork Schnitzel |
270 | ml | Whipping Cream |
140 | ml | Tomatoes (pureed) |
3 | Tbsp | Tomato Paste |
6 | Tbsp | Gyros Seasoning |
8 | Tbsp | Olive Oil |
11 | cl | Metaxa |
1 | Piece | Chili Pepper (finely chopped) |
2 | Pieces | Red Bell Peppers |
3 | Pieces | Garlic Cloves (pressed) |
2 | Pieces | Onions |
200 | g | Gouda Cheese (grated) |
Preparation
- First, the pork schnitzels are cut into thin strips. The onions are peeled, halved, and sliced into thin rings.
- Then, the meat, onions, garlic, chili, 4 cl Metaxa, and 5 tbsp spice mix are mixed together in a bowl.
- The mixture is left to marinate for about 10 minutes, then 3 tbsp olive oil is added. The meat is then placed in the refrigerator to marinate for about 3 hours.
- In the meantime, the peppers are washed, cleaned, and sliced into thin strips.
- Now, heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan and sear the meat for about 6 minutes. Then transfer the meat to a baking dish.
- Sauté the pepper strips in the same pan, also with 2 tbsp oil, for about 3 minutes. Then add the peppers to the meat in the dish and mix well.
- Add the tomato paste and the remaining spice mix to a pan and briefly toast. Deglaze the mixture with the remaining Metaxa and add the strained tomatoes and cream.
- Bring the sauce to a boil and then pour it over the gyro. Finally, sprinkle the gyro with cheese and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes.
